Anna University Speaking: Ethos and Pathos

” I am appealing to both the ethics and emotions of the (supposedly)
educated students and also their parents. It gives me great pain to
see my Campus so dirty, and not by some uneducated
people, but by the future students (who come for counseling for
engineering courses) of the University itself!

What value does the education have if you cannot imbibe its essence? Sad are the future
engineers who aspire to build buildings and great structures but fail
to keep their immediate surroundings clean.

Why do these young minds fail to understand that cleanliness is next
to godliness? Is moral science just some subject which you read and
not understand?

Please understand that ALL of you students are ALREADY dreaming of going abroad even before you join you course and dreaming of writing
to your family about the wonderful surroundings in the countries you MIGHT reside.

ALL of you FAIL to understand that those countries are what they are because people like you aspired not to leave the country they live in but to change their own country. Change starts from within…..all of you are seeking the change outside refusing to change within..

As parents it is very important for you to instill these values to your children
very young. When you throw a plastic bottle in the open and not in
the bin, please understand your children will not be different from
you.

A very important landmark and Alma Mater to many, I
deserve to be a better place and I do hope that there not many young
minds who litter their own university but expect miracles from their
country. I am not a exception but an example of the plight of our country

Please educate yourselves…..with all the right things in life….PLEASE”

Yours truly,
Anna University

    Nice thought Sir.
Humanity, Cleanliness and not to be corrupt are the three moral values that we learn at school. I wonder how these thoughts gets diluted as we grow up. Ever time we do a mistake like throwing a bottle or spiting on the road or bribe a cop we feel its fine and compromise. Little drops of water make a mighty ocean. We should not overlook little things, as like single drop of water.
So when ever we are about to commit something unhealthy lets just think of our school days for a second and be an exception from others and serve as examples to our fellow country [for present].
[And for future] Lets educate ourselves and others so that we get diluted as examples amongst our country men.

Just keeping your campus clean our country is not going to fly high. If all the educated person need to keep our surroundings clean, it is highly impossible. Just assume, you live near by a slum, which is your surrounding. Will you go and clean it, because you are educated? If your answer is yes, you are great indeed. There are far more better and important things to clean in this country first. I mean the whole Indian system. If that is neat and tidy, then everything else will be clean in our ways. I dont mean to criticize your point of view or hurt you, I am just telling the fact. But students moving to other countries is their privacy and choice. We love India, so we are still here, but those people like the other places, so they are moving out. I guess nothing is wrong in it. And just because they leave country we are not loosing anything from them, they are loosing something which was once theirs. But still its their own choice.
Young minds must keep it in mind that cleanliness is necessary, I strongly agree with it. But just keeping our places clean our country is not going to improve drastically. But still a nice thought, not powerful enough. I am sorry, if I have hurt you through my comment. Its just that I was not convinced with the comparison of students going to foreign countries and keeping our surroundings clean.
